Opening Night of the Orangerie

Opening Night of the Orangerie
Episode 25 of series 2 featured the opening night of the Orangerie. We had already restored this space - another derelict area - and wanted to launch it’s completion with a special pop-up dining experience. We love the hidden history of the Chateau and as well as restoring the buildings we are passionate about reviving it’s long history. In particular we wanted to pay hommage to the botanist, Oliver Jules Richard, who we think must have been a soulful and interesting character having built the ballroom wing of the chateau as well as being a recognised scientist, judge, doctor and local mayor in the mid 1800s. Loving everything botanical we decided a night dedicated to him would be perfect. Our guest chef Mike Wilkes created a regional and botanical themed menu (which could only be read with magnifying glass) and Angel helped Billie style the table to evoke the Botanists work and passions...Angel had great fun using lichen in the table display, Billie’s choice as OJ Richards work had been on the symbiotic relationship between algae and funghi in lichen - wiki can tell you more!
